The public is invited to attend the next general meeting of the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County, which will be held in-person and via Zoom on Saturday at 10 a.m. (arrive by 9:50), at Unitarian Universalists of Puna in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
Keaau High School Principal Dean Cevallos will be speaking about the school’s experience with the state’s new standards for civic education, including involvement with programs such as Kids Voting Hawaii and Hawaii History Day.
Cevallos also will share his impressions of how young people view civic and political engagement, opportunities and challenges ahead, and how the broader community can support our young people and Keaau High.
His talk will be followed by Q&A with the audience.
The organization also be recognizing the winner of the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County’s award for an outstanding project demonstrating civic engagement, advocacy or voter education in the strengthening of democracy and transparency at the 2024 Hawaii History Day Hawaii Island district competition.
